Our Story
At the Each One Teach One Star Academy (EOTOSA), we began with a simple idea: to help make educational opportunities accessible to individuals who face challenges in the system and struggle to complete their academic goals. We offer alternative educational pathways through GED preparation, Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) preparation, vocational training, and career and technical education (CTE).
Education is a fundamental right and should not be limited by financial and social barriers. That's why we proudly offer affordable, high-quality educational services to students of all ages and backgrounds.
Problem
Many individuals are navigating systemic challenges:
1 . Youth Aging Out of Foster Care:
- Each year, approximately 20,000 children age out of foster care, instantly losing access to every form of support they have. Due to no fault of their own, many of these kids face significant challenges. (source: adoptuskids.org)
- At least 20% become instantly homeless; less than 3% earn a college degree by age 26; only 50% find employment by age 24; 60% of young women who age out end up in the sex industry; 70% of young women are pregnant by 21; and 25% of youth who age out are dealing with PTSD. (source: hopearmy.org)
- Difficulty accessing education, mental health struggles, and lack of support networks make it difficult to transition smoothly into adulthood compared to their peers.
2. Individuals reentering society:
- A significant portion of individuals reentering society, particularly those with a history of incarceration, require assistance in improving their education and employment prospects.
- Many lack a high school diploma and struggle to find employment.
- A lack of education and skills significantly impacts employment prospects, leading to higher unemployment rates and an increased risk of recidivism.
3. Individuals who drop out of high school:
- Some individuals drop out of high school due to personal reasons, such as family obligations, financial constraints, or personal challenges.
- Academic challenges can contribute to dropping out of high school, as students may struggle to keep up with coursework, feel disengaged, or experience educational difficulties, which can ultimately lead to dropping out.
- Social and Behavioral factors like bullying, drug use, or involvement with gangs can also contribute to dropping out.
- Some individuals may lack motivation or interest in pursuing a high school education.
Mission
At the EOTO Star Academy, our mission is to deliver high-quality education and ongoing support services that inspire and empower individuals seeking a second chance to complete their educational goals.
We will fulfill our mission by:
- Offering GED preparation to help students pass the exam and obtain a high school diploma.
- Providing preparation for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam to assist with military entry.
- Delivering career and technical education (CTE) training.
- Providing life skills training.
- Offering vocational education training.
- Mentoring and counseling students regarding risky behaviors such as criminal activity, substance abuse, involvement in the sex industry, and human trafficking to prevent them from becoming victims.
Additionally, we support students with financial aid for school scholarships and resources for daily living expenses.
